Notes for Photographers

Contribute to the Ecoflora:

I have been adding photographs to the ecoflora database both for aesthetic reasons, and for scientific reasons. We all have a dream of photographing the whole of the British Flora and most of us have not got very far, but by combining our talents we should accomplish this task in a few years. However, not just any photograph will do. I have been aiming at an attempt to be able to identify the plant from the photographs which has resulted a minimum of three photographs - a close up of the flower, a close up of the leaf, and a photo of the whole plant. Many groups will require more, the bracteoles and the node for the umbelifers, fruits where appropriate, bark for trees, etc. I am sure we are all sufficiently experienced to come to grips with the key items of Stella Ross Craig's wonderful drawings with the demands of photography.

So far I have been taking photographs as 5-7 mb tiffs and then cutting and pasting to form a composite photograph 300 pixels high in a jpeg, under 100k. If you would like to contribute, send the photographs on a cdrom. The photographs are not copyright protected and can be reproduced with out consent so you must be prepared to give your photographs for free.
